Crossing the Line

Crossing the Line

Yes, this week’s entry is about crossing the line.

My wife and I, ‘shamefully’ have to admit that we put aside all of our sound judgement as parents and decided to enter JB at 3am in the morning! But before you jumped to conclusions and asked what about Daniel (well, more on him later), we had good reason for our seemingly poor choice.

Number one - I have always wanted to explore Johor Bahru city for its family-friendly offerings. My mindset is that a trip to JB, though counted as ‘overseas’, should be as fuss free as possible. No heavy packing and no massive time wasting in what I will describe next.

Number two - There is no way my wife and I would want to put Daniel through a massive traffic jam at his age. He will get restless fast when belted down to his seat and the journey might already start on the wrong foot if that happens.

Number three - Our plan actually worked!

Our trial and error shows that we have found the perfect JB recipe for our family in the future, and we define success as a smooth sailing trip where everyone goes home happy.

So the recipe is, and of course this is only specific to our family’s requirements, going into JB at 3am on Saturday morning meant that we could leave home and reach our Airbnb in under an hour. Perfect. To add on, Airbnb are the perfect options for this kind of “book-two-nights-waste-one-half-away” kind of trip. We had to book two nights, even though at a small financial loss, just so that we can continue our sleep once we arrived in JB. Then, to address our ‘disrupted sleep’, we catered for a nice afternoon power nap which was already after a long and active first half of the day. So either ways, we needed to recharge our batteries for the evening. With the power nap, now even Daniel could last a little longer through the evening.

So now let’s talk about going home. Again, the traffic jam is our consideration here and that is why we head back for home at 11am, before the ‘check-out crowd’ joins the line. And woah lah, we got across the causeway in under an hour with the rest of day still at our disposal (we hate coming home late, having spent most of the day in a car ..).

So as crazy as it was from a parenting angle, it actually worked to our family’s needs. Would we do it again? Definitely.

So please enjoy the videos and photo set from the super efficient trip and a bit of fun we had the following day in East Coast.
