Weekly Grind: Part IX - What is Our Narrative?

Weekly Grind: Part IX - What is Our Narrative?

There are so many narratives on what makes Singapore, Singapore. Some are more dominant than others, forming a backbone to our collective identity. But there are also narratives with subtle nuances that makes the plot line goes on a completely different track.

Weekly Grind: Part VIII - Little India on Diwali Night

When the majority of Singaporeans walk away from the crowd, I walk towards it. If there is any time that is best for us to experience this little enclave at night, it should be on the night before the Diwali celebration begins. Last minute shopping sprees, bargaining by the road side and migrant workers in good mood from having an additional day off to their weekend. The atmosphere was jovial and light.

Weekly Grind: Part V

One of the things that I wish I could bring back home after my Hong Kong trip is the level of enthusiasm to explore everything that is unfamiliar. That eagerness to get up early in the morning way before the sun rises and that determination to stay out long after dusk even when my legs have turned into jelly-welly. As much as I am aware that it is difficult to replicate all of the above in an environment that is already so familiar to me, I still think that the only thing that matters is our perspective. I didn't only see Hong Kong differently, I saw the world differently. So if I could somehow see Singapore in a different light ... then maybe, just maybe I might find myself a playground here too.

Enough rambling and let's move on to the selected pictures made from this week.

The Lost Cowboy

Escalator to Heaven

One last piece of news. I have successfully cull out thousands of pictures from my trip to Hong Kong down to just a handful over the past week which is a laboursome process but I am definitely happy with the result. It might even just be the best body of street photography work that I have produced so far. So I will be posting here the selections sometime next week.
Stay tuned for that update!

My Week Grind: Part III

Unfortunately for this week, I was extremely busy to actually set aside a dedicated time to go onto the streets and make photographs. Normally, I would have at least twice of such opportunities in any given week but not this week. But, I did have a short window earlier on today and I managed to get at least three decent photographs out of it.

And here they are! I hope you enjoy them.

My Weekly Grind: Part I

As part of my plan to keep this blog site lively, I have decided to curate and post a selected few of my street photographs taken during the week on every Sunday of that week. As for every other day, I will aim to share the stories that I have gathered on my other documentary projects too. So, Monday to Saturday is for short stories from my documentary projects and every Sunday is for my weekly curated street photography collection.

This way, I could prevent a surge in backlog and also at the very least, showcase a fraction of what I go through in my daily grind. So, hopefully, you guys will have something to look forward to in this space every week. And without further ado, here is my first collection from this previous week.
